Paper Making : Week One

March 1, 2011 by pcaphaiti

We are working on making artisanal paper from sugar cane and banana tree fibers. Artist Jenna Bonistalli shows PCAPers how to break up the necessary sugar cane for paper use.

Darlene, the daughter of a bilateral patient, finds a quiet place to draw as the cane fiber or bagas soaks before boiling.

In the interim while our local natural fibers are prepared, participants practice pulling sheets of cotton rag paper.

The paper is pressed onto interfacing to dry.
