The Polus Center, based in Worchester, MA., is currently working with the community of Choluteca, Honduras to develop a prosthetic outreach program that will produce artificial limbs for people who are poor and have suffered amputations. The project will focus on:
- improving mobility through the delivery of prosthetic/orthotic and physical therapy services;
- increasing employment opportunities by hiring and training people with amputations to become skilled prosthetic technicians and;
- improving social integration through raising public awareness about disability issues through education and advocacy.
Grapes for Humanity hosted a dinner on October 24, 2001 at the King Edward Hotel with Beringer Wine Estates as the sponsor. $50,000 USD was raised for a prosthetic outreach program in Choluteca, Honduras.
